The provincial government is putting up $5-million for a proposed dairy farm in Deer Lake.
The minister responsible for land resources Gerry Byrne says that the province is self-sufficient in milk and dairy but there is no secondary processing plant for cheese, butter or yogurt.
That is the hope for the new facility. He says COVID-19 taught them a lot about the resources here.
He says the province found themselves in a more difficult spot because some of the milk that was going to the mainland that was being sold for industrial purposes, ended up getting dumped out.
