As St. John’s prepares for a forecasted $1.77-million increase to Mile One’s operating budget due to the pandemic, the owner of the Newfoundland Growlers says he can offer a solution.
Dean MacDonald has brought up the idea of buying the facility before.
He believes it is a good option for the city, especially considering ballooning costs due to COVID-19.
They are doing similar things with the new team in Trois Rivieres, as well as with another new sports team they plan to unveil in the U.S. next month. He says they are building a good franchise in the entertainment and sports business and he believes they have the resources to run and fix up Mile One, whereas the city will not be able to allocate the proper funds.
