Crews arrived to find what they believe to be cooking oil spilled across a section of the road.
Traffic was diverted down Southlands Boulevard for a time to turn around.
This is the second such spill in a Galway roundabout over the last few months.
A tractor-trailer, carrying what appeared to be an oily substance or wastewater, overturned in the area in June.
The fire department says the substance appears to be cooking oil. They say they are pretty well done now and don't expect to be here much longer. They are waiting on the city the come clean up the absorbant. @VOCMNEWS @VOCMBen @GerriLynnMackey #nltraffic pic.twitter.com/cdscTS01bI
