A rugby player from this province has won a national award voted on by his peers.
Patrick Parfrey of St. John’s is a member of the national men’s team that suited up in last year’s World Cup.
Rugby Canada named its award winners on the weekend with Parfrey receiving the Canadian Shield Award as player of the year.
He says they do what they can to keep in game shape, including tame versions of the sport.
He says getting back to team experiences at the Swilers is exciting even though they’re only playing flag and touch rugby.
