It’s still a few years away from graduating, but a police dog recruit is off to a strong start after being named by a young student from CBS.
Six-year-old Alyssa Dawe was one of almost 35,000 students from across the country to submit a name to RCMP’s ‘name a puppy’ contest. Alyssa’s entry was one of 13 chosen—one for each province and territory.

(Makwa and Maya—two other puppies named as part of the ‘Name of Puppy’ contest.)
Alyssa says entered the name ‘Mika,’ because her older sister has a friend with the same name, and she really enjoyed it.
Only time will tell if Mika, the puppy, will go on to succeed in its training, but the RCMP says it has already been given a great start to its career, thanks to Alyssa.
She will receive a prize package for her successful entry tomorrow at Admirals Academy in CBS.
