The glittery spectacle known as the annual capelin roll is back at Middle Cove Beach.
The tiny silvery fish, which have been making appearances at various places around the province, have now made their way to the metro coastline where they annually attract thousands of eager onlookers.

Already, people are coming away with buckets-full of capelin but Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove Mayor Bert Hickey says traffic is always a concern.
He notes there needs to be enough room for emergency vehicles to get through.
This year there’s the added issue with COVID-19. Mayor Hickey wants people to go down and enjoy the attraction but to keep physical distancing in mind.
Many happy people at Middle Cove Beach as they grab some capelin. I just chatted w Peyton Doucey, she & her family received a travel exemption to travel here from Alberta following a death in the family. Sad circumstances but the capelin seem to be lifting spirits. @590VOCM pic.twitter.com/Yri5cXPAMI
