Workers at Dominion stores across Newfoundland are one step closer to labour action. Unifor says they delivered an overwhelming 94 per cent strike mandate after negotiations with Loblaw failed to produce an agreement.
Unifor President Jerry Dias says last year Dominion cut 60 full-time positions in Newfoundland while its parent company, Loblaw, raked in more than $1-billion in profit.
The union has set a strike deadline of 12:01 am next Friday – just after midnight Thursday.
Carolyn Wrice, president of Unifor Local 597, says there is still time to negotiate an agreement if Dominion returns with a fair offer.
