A man and a woman have been charged after an accident scene was allegedly reconstructed by the driver to make it appear as if someone else was behind the wheel.
New-Wes-Valley RCMP spent weeks investigating the single-vehicle crash, which happened in Indian Bay on May 25 and left three people with serious injuries.
A passenger had been ejected from the car while another passenger was trapped inside.
Police say the driver, 41-year-old Kelly Pickett of Centreville, left the scene after contacting 62-year-old Gerard Shaw of Indian Bay to pick her up prior to the arrival of first responders.
RCMP allege that Pickett and Shaw staged the crash scene to portray one of the passengers as the driver. They then left the scene, leaving the injured passengers behind, and headed to a remote area.
After Pickett—who was seriously injured during the accident—was secured in a residence, RCMP say Shaw then reported the accident to them.
Kelly Pickett has been charged with several offences including dangerous operation causing bodily harm and public mischief, while Shaw faces a charge of public mischief.
