The Opposition House Leader says she’s eager to see government introduce a policy on the use of artificial intelligence by government members.
Lisa Dempster made the comment following a post by Tourism Minister Andrea Barbour, who regretted making use of ChatGPT in a promotional post on Tourism Week.
The algorithm made noticeable changes to the exterior of The Rooms, leading to questions and concerns.
Minister Barbour rose on an emotional Point of Privilege in the house, outlining the mockery and cruelty she’s suffered on social media since the mistake.
Lisa Dempster says, with the use of AI, some politicians and parties are going further, using the technology to alter images to score political brownie points.
She calls it a new low.
“And some of it is happening from the highest seats, when we’re wrongfully accused, when it’s dishonesty, when it’s videos with our faces distorted and things like that. I do hope AI policy is coming, and I hope that there will be some firm parameters put around AI, because what people are seeing now and naturally believing from their leaders, is not really true. Much of it is not true.”
