A 35-year-old Sheshatshiu man is facing criminal charges following an unusual incident in the community this week.
RCMP patrolling on McKenzie Drive were cut off by an ATV which was carrying two people who were not wearing helmets.
Police say the ATV sped off, nearly throwing the rear passenger off. There were children playing in the area, and other traffic on the road at the time.
The officer did not pursue the machine but located it a short time later at a gas station.
Breath samples provided by the driver were nearly three times the legal limit, according to RCMP.
The accused now faces charges of impaired driving, and dangerous operation of a vehicle. He was released from custody to appear in court in December.
