Muskrat Falls was among the topics discussed between Premier Andrew Furey and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a recent meeting.
Premier Furey says rate mitigation to keep electricity rates affordable once the hydropower from Muskrat Falls comes online, remains a serious issue facing the province.
The Prime Minister acknowledges that Muskrat Falls was a provincially-driven project, but Furey says Trudeau recognizes the “punitive” effect it will have on ratepayers.
Premier Furey says it’s “not lost” on the Prime Minister that value from the project must be unlocked for the province and help mitigate rates.
