The Pedestrian Mall in Downtown St. John’s ends today.
St. John’s City Council has committed to opening the mall next year with hopes to hold a market-style event later in the fall and winter.
The man behind the idea of making Water Street “pedestrian-only” believes it was a massive success.
Kevin Casey, Executive VP & Partner at Cal LeGrow Insurance & Financial Group, says he floated the idea during a St. John’s Board of Trade session on tackling Business Pivots.
He gives credit to the city for moving quickly to make the idea a reality in just two weeks.
Casey says it brought people downtown who haven’t been there in a while but now he says it is time for the council to reflect and make improvements for next year.
He says now is the perfect time to look at what worked and what didn’t.
Saying goodbye to the pedestrian mall. No idea why.. lots of life left in it yet. pic.twitter.com/Eci3Wrx6IA

Meanwhile, families took to social media to share how they spent the long weekend soaking in the last of walking (or dancing) on Water Street.
