The Port of Argentia is teaming up with an Alberta company to look at the possibility of developing a wind power project.
It would be a 60-megawatt renewable energy project on the southwestern Avalon, but first, the port and Clem Geo will investigate the viability of commercial wind resources on port lands in the area.
Clem Geo and its partners have supported the development of over 150 MW of utility-scale wind projects in Canada. CEO Charlene Beckie says they will engage with community members and local businesses during the project assessment.
The wind farm would have the potential to remove 35.4 tons of CO2 equivalent from the air annually and bring $135-million of private investment to the province.
