A federal cabinet minister whose riding is in this province is touting this week’s Spring Economic Statement as something which contains good things for the entire province.
Ottawa is spending millions to attract people to the skilled trades in order to “Build Canada Strong,” a measure which St. John’s East MP Joanne Thompson says will help improve affordability and opportunity.
She met with Skilled Trades NL yesterday to talk about the new financial enticements which include a $400 weekly wage top-up for apprentices.
Ottawa recently announced about $8-billion for 5-Wing Goose Bay, and Minister Thompson notes that skilled workers will be needed not only there but for other large projects.
