The Pharmacists’ Association is encouraging everyone to take advantage of a new program that allows residents to get their flu shot free of charge from their community pharmacy.
The provincial government is hoping for an 85 per cent vaccination rate this year. PANL says that objective is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic, as reducing the risk of influenza could mean saving significant strain on the health care system.
President Janice Audeau says there are new protocols in place this year to ensure physical distancing and improved sanitization. For example, any time someone gets a flu shot, the room must be sanitized before it can be used again.
As such, anyone interested in getting a flu shot should reach out to their local pharmacy to schedule an appointment. For those feeling unsure whether they should get immunized, Audeau says there’s no harm in picking up the phone.
Whether you contact your pharmacist, doctor, or nurse practitioner, she says they are more than ready to answer your questions.
