An all-party public health committee set up to share information among MHAs regarding the COVID-19 pandemic has been terminated by the government.
Health Minister John Haggie says the decision to end the committee meetings was made because MHAs stopped coming. He believes attendance continued to dwindle because members had other things on their mind.
The meetings went from every day of the week, to every second day, then once a week, with the last meeting happening earlier this month.

It was Tory Leader Ches Crosbie who first proposed the committee. He said it was news to him today that it was quietly terminated.
Crosbie says he reached out to Premier Andrew Furey regarding the meetings but has yet to receive a response.
Haggie, meanwhile, said no one from the other parties has called him to reinstate the meetings, but they’re welcome to do so if they have any questions or information they want to share.
