An MHA in the metro region says Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s should have its own inclusive education system, including a high school.
PCSP is the eighth-largest municipality in the province, but high school students go to PWC in St. John’s.
Conception Bay East-Bell Island MHA David Brazil says St. John’s is going to have challenges over the next while finding enough space for students, so have a high school in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s is a good strategic move.
As well, it would eliminate the need to bus to and from St. John’s.
There would be other benefits he says. Students in growing Kenmount Terrace would then be able to go to a school close to them, plus it would be another amenity for Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s.
