The owner of a husky mix is hailing her dog as a hero after helping to find a missing man who was lost in the woods in Conception Bay South since last Friday.
Laura Jean Piercey says her Rescue dog Zeta loves being out in nature and is very curious about other animals. So, when the dog became fixated on the woods a few days ago near her father’s house, Piercey didn’t think much of it.
She thought Zeta spotted a stray cat, or that maybe a moose had walked through the area. However, the animal’s fascination didn’t let up the next day until Piercey let the dog take her into the woods.
That, she says, is when they found the missing 51-year-old man.
Piercey calls her dog a “complete hero” who didn’t give up even when nobody would listen to her. She credits previous rescue training she had completed with the dog for helping them find the man and believes the training with Newfoundland Search Dogs played a big part in how things unfolded.
