The NLTA believes more extracurricular activities in the province’s schools will increase the risk of the spread of COVID-19 and runs contrary to public health measures now in place.
As of Monday, school sports can resume based on where they would fall on School Sports NL’s yearly calendar.
Teachers’ Union President Dean Ingram says everyone has heard the mantra “People, Space, Time and Place” and the more you open up the school system, the greater the threat of spreading the virus.
He admits the province is in a good place, but it should be up to the teacher to decide what their comfort level is when it comes to extracurricular activities.
