St. John’s native Alex Newhook was the offensive hero, scoring the winning goal in the third period to send the Montreal Canadiens to the second round of the NHL playoffs.
The Habs opened the scoring in the first, but Tampa tied it up. The Lightning badly outshot the Canadiens – Montreal did not have a shot on goal in the second period – but the visitors stayed in the game. They ended with only 9 shots on goal, but the last one was Newhook’s.
