An RCMP constable stationed in Whitbourne has been charged with firearms offences stemming from an incident earlier this month.
On November 5, police responded to the home of Constable Levi Bennett due to an incident involving a weapon. Few details have been released, but the RCMP says no threat to the public was identified.
The investigation was overseen by the newly-established Serious Incident Response Team in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Today, Cst. Bennett was arrested and charged with careless use of a firearm, two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was released from custody on multiple conditions and is due to return to court on January 13.
The RCMP says he has been suspended with pay.
