Winter is going to make itself known over the eastern portion of the island this weekend.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for St. John’s and vicinity through to Terra Nova and the Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas.
Between 10 to 20 centimetres of snowfall is expected from Saturday afternoon through to Sunday morning.
The highest snowfall amounts can be expected inland and over higher terrain. Most coastal areas should see a messy mix of snow and rain.
Meteorologist Ian Hubbard with Environment Canada in Gander says it will be a messy mix over most areas, with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark accumulations will be greater in higher elevations.
Winds will be moderate at times with gusts to about 50 to 60 km/h.
