The Murphy Centre is finally forging ahead with an important fundraising campaign to help them deliver their adult education programs.
The Murphy Centre began in 1986 in response to addressing young people whose educational needs were not being met.
Tony Murphy says it started as a pilot project funded by the Christian Brothers in partnership with the federal government, but eventually evolved into a career services provider and customized alternative learning environment.
COVID has had an impact both on their offerings and on their fundraising efforts, with the first-ever Inspiring Lives appeal being pushed back to November from March of this year.
Derek Moore, a development co-ordinator with the Murphy Centre, says things are picking up.
He says their career counsellors are doing remote individual consulting and there are more in-person sessions as they adjust to public health regulations surrounding COVID.)
Funding will help the Murphy Centre respond to emerging needs and will help them research new program possibilities.
Donations are being accepted online through the Murphy Centre’s website.
