A cat that had all the odds stacked against him is now an internet sensation and is serving as an ambassador for rescue animals in central Newfoundland.
His story was recently outlined on the Exploits Valley SPCA page by owner Sarah MacLeod, an executive member of the SPCA and the shelter’s social media liaison.
Bubby is an orange tabby with three legs and only part of a tail. His story dates all the way back to 2012 when he suddenly showed up in the kitchen of a man in Grand Falls-Windsor.
The two formed a deep bond, and Bubby regularly paid visits to the man, but always wanted to go back outside.
The man passed away in 2017 and for two years, Bubby seemed to disappear.
Last year, the man’s neighbour suddenly saw the cat, worse for wear, up around the same property he used to frequent. A woman was now living in the home Bubby used to visit, but she was terrified of cats. Ray Pinsent convinced his neighbour that if the cat came around again, to let him in and give him a call. MacLeod says Pinsent got a call the very next day.
Bubby was in the woman’s kitchen and looking pretty rough. MacLeod says “there wasn’t much left to him” when he arrived at the shelter and she didn’t expect he’d live much longer in the elements.
The cat was nursed back to health, stealing hearts along the way. MacLeod is now proud to call Bubby hers. She says he has shown no interest in going back outdoors and he’s become a hit on Instagram as an ambassador to rescue animals everywhere.
