The mayor of Holyrood has resigned, citing “festering internal issues.”

Mayor Gary Goobie posted a letter on social media saying he’s lost confidence in the majority of councillors and most management staff to the point where he feels he can no longer serve effectively as the town’s mayor.

He says a recent “communications fiasco” was a prime example of the dysfunction that triggered his resignation after 20 years on council.

Goobie says many people in the town have told him they are disturbed by how the town is being run, but he says it’s impossible to make positive changes without majority support of council.

He says he’ll continue to stand by his principles, values and integrity, adding “the facts are the facts and the truth is the truth.”

VOCM News has reached out to former mayor Goobie for comment on the specific issues that led to his resignation.
