Officials on the French islands of St-Pierre-Miquelon are dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak at its hospital.
As of late Sunday, there were reportedly seven confirmed cases linked to the hospital cluster, including three doctors and a child.
Stephanie Bowring, who has worked on the islands and has friends and family there, says local media are reporting that the source of the outbreak is a doctor who arrived from France.
She says the problem is that the outbreak is coming from a specialist who wasn’t following the COVID-19 rules.
At least 50 close contacts of the positive cases have been identified, and testing of all hospital staff is expected this week.
Residents of St-Pierre-Miquelon needing health care in Newfoundland and Labrador have been exempt under the province’s non-resident travel ban.
