More details are expected today involving a man charged with failing to self-isolate after arriving in this province from Alberta on Friday.
The 24-year-old, a resident of Fort McMurray, was pulled over around 4 a.m. Sunday in Corner Brook but immediately ran from his vehicle before being chased down and arrested by police.
He was initially charged with refusing the breathalyser as well as obstructing an officer. But after further investigation, he was also charged under the Provincial Special Measures Orders for failing to self-isolate.
It remains unclear if the man has been tested for COVID-19, or whether he’s still in custody.
Otherwise, it was all quiet on the COVID front on the weekend as far as new cases go in the province.
There were two recoveries reported on Saturday, leaving just five active cases in Newfoundland and Labrador.
One person remains in hospital with the virus, but health officials have refused to provide further information about that case.
Today’s COVID update will be issued through a news release since the live briefings were switched to once a week on Wednesdays during the provincial election campaign.
