A 23-year-old St. John’s man has been fined $520 dollars and has had his license suspended for driving at more than 180 km/h on the Trans Canada Highway last Wednesday.
RCMP Traffic Services East responded to a complaint from an off-duty officer was passed by a white Dodge Durango SUV. The off-duty officer reported that the vehicle was driving at excessive speeds and was weaving in traffic, nearly causing a collision near Holyrood.
Police activated the radar near Ocean Pond and registered a speed of 183 km/h.
The driver was eventually pulled over, ticketed and his license was suspended.
