A 15-year-old girl from St. John’s pitched the only win for the Under-17 boys provincial baseball team this past weekend in Nova Scotia.
Slamming bats, tossing helmets, kicking dirt and walking away frustrated.
That was the reaction of many boys at the Under-17 Atlantic Baseball Showcase in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia this past weekend after being struck out by 15-year-old Jaida Lee of St. John’s.
In 5 innings pitched she gave up 2 hits, threw 6 strikeouts and a new personal best of a 77mph fastball.
Lee is the only girl on the Under-17 boys provincial baseball team and says it feels good to steal the teams only win at the tournament, and adds that it’s always fun to see the reaction of players she strikes out.
There’s no slowing down for Lee, though.
She’s currently in Quebec with the Women’s National Team for an identification camp, along with fellow Newfoundlander Heather Healy, before she heads to Moncton for the Under-15 boys Atlantic Championships.
Lee says she’s attending the PBR Atlantic Showcase, then the girls Under-16 Atlantic Championships in PEI. It’s all very exciting, but she says it takes a lot of stretching, training and hard work to perform at the highest level.
