The fire chief in Labrador City is bringing attention to the potential dangers caused by onlookers flocking to emergency scenes following a recent incident in the town.
Chief Joe Power says traffic nearly came to a standstill while firefighters were responding to a fire on Raven Avenue.
While firefighters responding to an incident may draw attention, he says personnel must be afforded space to do their jobs safely.
When people unaffected by a fire decided to head to the scene, Power says it causes issues for those emergency crews.
Blocking emergency access, interfering with an emergency scene, blocking a hydrant, or driving over fire hoses are all violations that could have serious implications.
For the safety of first responders and the safety of the community, he asks residents to stay safe and stay away.
