A new program being offered by Nature Newfoundland and Labrador and the public library system is hoping to make it easier for residents to get outdoors and pick up an interest in birdwatching.
Just in time for the start of fall migration season, the Birdwatching Backpack Program has distributed kits that are able to be borrowed from public libraries in several communities across the province.
Including St. John’s, Mount Pearl, CBS, Carbonear, Clarenville, Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Corner Brook, Pasadena, Labrador City, and Wabush.
The packs contain binoculars, bird identification guides, tips for beginners and information on local birdwatching locations.
Beverly McClenaghan, who is with Nature NL, says a lifelong interest can be sparked by a single exciting encounter with a bird, and they wish to give everyone the opportunity to hit the trails and give birdwatching a try.
