Two local hockey players are coming home.
Zach O’Brien and Marcus Power, both from St. John’s, are reportedly joining the Toronto Marlies organization, and are expected to play for the Newfoundland Growlers this upcoming season.
The pair left North America to play with EV Landshut in the German league after the COVID-19 shutdown of the ECHL.
The German team is claiming that the players are violating their contracts by returning to the Marlies system. However, due to the shutdown, that is in question.
O’Brien scored 46 points in 41 games with the Growlers in the 2019-2020 season, while Power netted 50 points in 51 games.
