Premier Andrew Furey says the province will “work through” any potential court rulings against the rate mitigation deal with Ottawa.
The Supreme Court will decide this week whether to grant an injunction that would stop the planned signing on September 30th.
The Innu Nation filed the application, saying the federal and provincial governments failed in their duty to consult them on the deal.
They say the agreement strips benefits promised in exchange for building the Muskrat Falls project on their land.
The deal, meanwhile, must be done before first commercial power comes online in late November.
Otherwise rates for customers on the island could nearly double.
When asked about that possibility, Furey responded “We’ll work through it.”
Justice Sandy MacDonald said on Friday that he would deliver his decision this week, but did not specify the day.
