On average the provincial department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs addresses one major conflict of interest violation per year.
That’s according to Minister Krista Lynn Howell.
On Tuesday, she gave the details of proposed Code of Conduct legislation, which will help to address what a conflict of interest is, how to prevent them from occurring, and what to do when they do occur.
Though Howell states that her department handles about one major conflict per year, councils across the province do experience them from time to time.
Howell thinks the new legislation will give councils a clearer idea of how to handle such situations.
