The provincial government has announced approximately $35.5 million dollars in funding for 26 supply and service projects in the province’s offshore.
Five of the 26 projects are non-commercial. Among them is just over $1 million dollars in funding to Memorial University’s Marine Institute for the creation of a Subsea Centre of Excellence.
Once complete, the centre will allow operators to improve environmental safety and reduce the likelihood of damage or spills during routine offshore maintenance in a simulated environment.
The funding is part of $320 million dollars in joint federal / provincial support announced in September of 2020.
Premier Andrew Furey says the announcement completes that commitment, noting that the money as a whole was necessary to save the industry and put the industry “back on good footing.”
