The family of a woman killed in a gender-based violence attack are keeping the memory of their daughter alive by encouraging others to speak out.
Philip and Debbie Hibbs, whose daughter Juliane Hibbs and her fiancée Vince Dillon were shot and killed in 2013 by a man who was involved in a relationship with Hibbs many years earlier, spoke at multiple events kicking off the Purple Ribbon Campaign in the Metro region.
Philip says it’s important to let people know if you are in a violent situation, both during and after the relationship. He says often times things take a turn for the worst after the relationship has ended.
He says when Juliane came back home, they thought the situation was long over. She had gotten engaged to Dillon and they were preparing for a wedding on the horizon, however, because of the attack, it would never come to be.
Debbie says the best way to remember their daughter, is by sharing her story.
She says Juliane would be proud to know her story may have saved others.
