The RNC responded to a theft in progress at a business in the Kelsey Drive area last night.

At approximately 6:45 p.m. a patrol officer caught up with the male suspect a short distance from the scene.

The assailant assaulted the officer in an attempt to escape.

The officer sustained injuries, but was released from the hospital the same evening.

The 20-year-old suspect was charged with assault causing bodily harm to an officer, resisting arrest, six breaches of court orders, and theft.

He was held to appear in court.
