Almost a quarter of Canadians are being forced to make an impossible choice. A poll by Food Banks Canada shows that 20 per cent of Canadians are eating less than they should these days because of skyrocketing costs.
This summer is expected to be the toughest one that food banks will have experienced.
Food Banks Canada CEO Kirstin Beardsley, who’s based in Toronto, says usage of food banks rose 30 per cent during the recession of 2008, and the numbers never came down. Outlets nowadays are busier than they were in pre-pandemic times.
