The First Minister and Minister of Nunatsiavut Affairs with the Nunatsiavut Government has tendered his resignation.
President Johannes Lampe says while he’s disappointed to accept Tony Andersen’s resignation, he understands his reasons for doing so.
Andersen advised Lampe that he is unable to effectively carry out his duties as First Minister for personal reasons.
Andersen will stay on to serve as Ordinary Member for Nain in the Nunatsiavut Assembly.
Melva Williams will assume the role as Acting First Minister and Minister of Nunatsiavut Affairs on an interim basis.
The assembly must nominate an Ordinary Member for appointment as First Minister within 28 days from the time of Andersen’s resignation. A date to choose a new First Minister has yet to be determined.
