Academy Canada Corner Brook is launching a new program with a completely free paid work term to get people into the trade of welding.
The project is federally funded and recognized by the provincial Apprenticeship and Trades certification division. The targeted demographic is newcomers, older workers, unemployed youths, women, indigenous peoples and those with disabilities, as getting these priority groups into their welding program is the goal.
Lisa Lovelady, COO of Academy Canada, explains why a program like this is needed to meet demand in the west coast.
She says unless people are enrolled in programs to get the experience, it will put more pressure on the economy and hurt it. The only thing that can help is to get boots on the ground.
This program starts on June 27, and applications are open to all.
