A woman driving on the Edward E. Howlett Memorial Highway last night suddenly found herself under a barrage of what seemed like rocks or BBs, leaving her vehicle heavily damaged with a shattered rear window and numerous dings and dents.
Patsy McCormack had left Torbay earlier and got onto the Goulds Bypass at about 7:10 p.m.. She doesn’t know if someone was deliberately shooting at her car or if people on off-road vehicles were churning up rocks. There was still plenty of daylight left and she had a hood line of sight but all she saw was a cloud of dust in the distance.
McCormack says it was like being in a war zone with dozens of projectiles hitting at once. She says it could have been much worse had someone been in the vehicle with her.
She says had somebody been in the back seat, they would have gotten a BB or a rock.
McCormack’s vehicle eventually limped into Trepasssey. There were no rocks on or in the car.
She was badly shaken by the incident.
