The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has announced that it will adopt 9-8-8 as the number to call for Canadians in need of immediate mental health crisis and suicide prevention intervention.
That means that 10-digit dialing will need to be introduced in Newfoundland and Labrador in order for 9-8-8 to function across Canada.
This province is one of the few jurisdictions in Canada where seven digit dialing is still the norm.
The CRTC requires service providers to complete the transition to 10-digit dialing in Newfoundland and Labrador and other jurisdictions by May 31 of 2023.
