A local convenience store owner says his customers are not at all happy with the new sugary drink tax which came into effect yesterday.
Robert Tucker owns and operates Tucker’s Superette on Empire Avenue in St. John’s which has been in business since 1934.
He says customers are upset with the new tax and he fears it will affect sales.
He believes it was the wrong time to implement the 20 cent a litre tax when costs on just about everything are soaring.
Collecting the tax is left to the store owners and Tucker says he has yet to decide how that will work when he makes his next purchase of product.
