It’s the last couple of days that school-aged children can roll over and go back to sleep in the morning. Teachers go back to school tomorrow and students on Wednesday.
Ideally, children will have been grooming themselves over the past week or so by adjusting their sleep schedule by a certain amount each day.
Sleep is seen as the foundation of good health. Not enough of it and things such as school work can suffer.
Dr. Christopher Earle, a psychiatrist and sleep physician at Memorial University, says the national recommendation calls for 9-11 hours of sleep for children ages 6-12.
He agrees that sounds like a lot to an adult, who would not get that much sleep. But that varies with age and the needs of a particular child.
