A child care advocacy group says putting money towards creating more daycare spaces in the province is all fine and dandy, but more focus needs to be put on supporting early childhood educators.
Patrice Gordon is a member of the local Child Care Now chapter and says announcements from government, like the one made in St. John’s last week—$13.7 million in federal funding to expand child care spaces—offer very little incentives for ECEs.
Gordon says the announcements have little merit if there isn’t a solid workforce behind it. She says ECEs have been asking for a number of benefits to no avail.
