A stretch of highway in central Newfoundland has been named after former Liberal Premier Beaton Tulk.
Premier Andrew Furey made the announcement at Confederation Building yesterday.
A stretch of route 330, from Carmanville to Musgrave Harbour, will now be known as the Beaton Tulk Highway.
The announcement was made on the eve of what would have been Tulk’s 80th birthday, and just two days before the fifth anniversary of his death.
Tulk’s wife, Dora, says she’s thrilled about the dedication, noting that her husband did “so much” for the province.
When she drives past the sign for the first time, Dora knows what will go through her mind. “I’ll smile a big smile, and say ‘you finally did it.'”
Tulk served as Premier of the province for a short time from October 2000 to February 2001.
He passed away after a battle with cancer in 2019.
