More details have been released regarding the recall of a free product offered with some NLC products.
The promotional tumbler came with the purchase of Nütrl beverages throughout April and May.
The recall was announced this week after a defect was found that could cause “the release of a contaminant when filled with liquid.”
In an update today, the NLC said testing to date has determined that some of the tumblers may contain a chemical cleaning solution which has been trapped between the inner walls of the tumbler, and has levels of sulfuric and phosphoric acids.
“When liquid is added to the tumbler, this solution may be released, which may result in elevated levels of iron, chromium and nickel,” the NLC said in its update.
Swallowing the solution could result in a burning sensation on the lips, tongue, throat, stomach, as well as other tissue damage, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhea. Contact with the skin could also lead to blistering, burns, pain and redness.
The product manufacturer, Sunscope, initiated the recall in Canada. They say they’re working with Health Canada to notify consumers and identify any other health concerns related to the issue.
Anyone who has one of the tumblers in question should stop using it.
