While there is a provincial fire ban in place , the province is asking operators of offroad vehicles to do their part in preventing additional wildfires from starting.
The fire ban was announced yesterday as the province has all of its resources tied up in fighting fires in Labrador – one of which has forced the evacuation of Churchill Falls.
Forestry Minister Elvis Loveless says people out on their ATVs can do their part to prevent more fires from popping up.
He says they should have a proper screening and baffling device to prevent sparks. They should also carry a fire extinguisher with them in case a fire does start.
