Transport Canada says it has been notified after a vessel reportedly struck the jetty at the Whiffen Head transshipment facility in Placentia Bay this week.
Transport Canada says it will conduct a thorough inspection of the vessel to ensure compliance with regulations outlined in the Canada Shipping Act.
Company officials have not confirmed any information on the incident, but reports to the VOCM Newsroom suggest that the vessel struck the jetty hard. There is no immediate word on the extent of damage, or whether there were any injuries.
Also unknown at this time is whether or not operations have been affected by the incident.
VOCM News is tracking the story and will have more information as it becomes available.
