A young man accused of only making matters worse during last year’s wildfires is mulling over a proposed sentence from the Crown.
Twenty-one-year-old Caleb Boland-Pelkey faces three charges of arson with disregard for human life and a $150,000 fine.
It’s alleged he set several brush fires in downtown St. John’s within a two-hour span on the night of August 12th.
A province-wide fire ban and strict penalties were in place at the time as firefighters battled serious wildfires including at Paddy’s Pond and on the Conception Bay North Shore
Defence lawyer Jeff Brace said he received a “best offer” from the Crown on Friday, and had a brief chat with his client about it, but asked for more time to discuss his options.
The Crown’s offer was not revealed in court.
Boland-Pelkey, who was released on bail just before Christmas, is due back in court March 3rd to enter pleas to the charges.
